New Year’s Eve is a special day, and many like to eat out and enjoy an extra special meal. Because it is such a popular day to dine out, choosing a restaurant and making reservations early are advised. Following are two restaurants in San Jose that help diners ring in the New Year with flair. Additional restaurants will be featured in future articles.
Chef Michael Mina’s ARCADIA is located inside the San Jose Marriott at 100 W. San Carlos Street. On New Year’s Eve, ARCADIA offers a 5-course prix fixe menu for $85.00 per person. The amuse bouche is an American caviar parfait with crème fraiche, smoked salmon, and dill. First course choices are curried kabocha squash soup, frisee aux lardons, or smoked salmon salad. For the second course, diners can choose between blue nose seabass, San Francisco cioppino, or Maine lobster pot pie. Main course choices are 38 north duck “two ways,” Humboldt grass-fed beef filet and short rib Rossini, or a Cedar Springs Colorado lamb chop. The meal concludes with a dessert tasting trio consisting of midnight chocolate molten cake, panna cotta, and a bon-bon.
LB Steak in Santana Row offers a 4-course prix fixe menu for $71.50 on New Year’s Eve. The first course is wild domestic gulf prawns in a champagne hibiscus broth with candied kumquat. The second course is grilled honey-balsamic marinated quail with endive, arugula, tangerine supremes, and toasted pine nuts in a winter citrus vinaigrette. For the main entrée, diners have a choice. They can either enjoy pan seared Gigha Island halibut with a herb-bacon crust, served with truffle root vegetable “risotto,” Parmigiano Reggiano cheese, and Maine lobster bisque. Or diners can enjoy a 36 hour braised wagyu short rib with white cheddar grits, Brussels sprouts, and pancetta. Dessert is Julia Child’s bourbon boca negra cake with macerated dry cherries, whipped cream, and champagne granite. At midnight, diners will enjoy party favors and a complimentary champagne toast. All prix fixe menu items will also be served a la carte, and a limited regular menu will also be available.
